"The Last Night of the Year" was written between March and May of 2008. With every release, I learn a little more... I get a little sharper when the comics throw me a curve. "The Last Night of the Year" was originally slated to be a 20 page Omake like the first, but after the story developed, it became clear that it needed to be in color. The "Storybook format" is also an experiment, but it seemed in this story you really needed to
be with Julie, a 3rd person narrative seemed so very cold and impersonal, so I decided to go with a 1st person storybook narrative.
Color is markedly more complicated and more expensive, I worried about the amount of time it would take would make it too difficult to complete before I started on Issue 2 of The Champion (I'm never very confident about my abilities... I seem to have a real problem with completion when things get too complex).
TLNY is, I feel, is closer to the real heart of both Tamerlane and Star Trek; it's not about spaceships or phasers, it's about people. Sometimes people have dark times and light times. Omake 1 was a light time for Julie Cochrane; Omake 2 is a dark time for her.
TLNY is also the first of the Tamerlane stories to be released in Adobe Acrobat pdf. This is totally because of the assistance of PookaKnight.
